Two November Events

Hello Friends,

I hope this late autumn is treating you well! In Southern Alberta, a ferocious wind and blowing snow are making it feel more like January than November.

This is why it is wonderful to be able to invite you, no matter where you live, to join both of my upcoming virtual events: a book launch for Escape from the Wildfire, hosted by Shelf Life Books in Calgary; and a micro-course, Climate for Kids, hosted by the Alexandra Writers’ Centre Society (AWCS).

For the virtual book launch, I thought it would be fun to invite an author friend along, Dee Hahn, author of The Grave Thief, so we could chat about our books and writing, plus invite the audience to join in the conversation and ask questions.

Here is the join link from Shelf Life Books.

Here are details about the workshop, Climate for Kids.

Tuesday Nov. 22, 7-9pm MT

Are you interested in tackling climate issues in children’s literature, but you don’t know where to start? Join Dorothy Bentley, the author of Escape from the Wildfire, in this interactive workshop where you’ll explore storytelling touchstones using current issues with sensitivity to children’s needs.

This is an interactive online class using the Zoom web platform.

Dorothy Bentley was born in Southern Ontario and has made Alberta her home for many years. She has taught creative writing, written a newspaper column, and works for the Writer’s Guild of Alberta. A nature enthusiast, she is an advocate of tree planting. Surviving the trauma of a devastating wildfire herself inspired her to research and write about the topic in Escape from the Wildfire, published by Lorimer Kids & Teens, 2022. She is also the author of a picture book, Summer North Coming, published by Fitzhenry & Whiteside, 2019. She lives near Okotoks, Alberta.

  1. Thanks Dorothy, I sent this on to my friend Carol who’s working on a children’s book. She’s an elementary school teacher too, so I think she’d not only get a lot out of this but could possibly promote your book. I hope she signs up. 🙂
