Manuscript Guidance

If you are a writer who would benefit from guidance and feedback on your work, Dorothy schedules time each quarter to mentor and provide feedback to developing writers.

Which type of assistance would be most helpful?

  1. Mentoring: get help to stay on track with a major writing project, such as a long essay, a novel, or a non-fiction book.
  2. A developmental review: get big picture feedback and suggestions to improve the plot, narrative arc, characters, and other story elements.
  3. Proof-reading: flow, grammar, spelling, syntax.
  4. Manuscript formatting: professional submission format.

Review of Developmental Edit

Dorothy reviewed my 66,000-word upmarket fiction manuscript with keen observations of the overall structure, plot cohesion and character development. This would be considered structural or developmental editing; but being naturally inclined to all levels of editing, she also included some line editing which alerted me to smaller issues with my writing that, upon revision, had real impact on my manuscript. I agreed with almost all of Dorothy’s comments and suggestions; they were insightful and made sense. I implemented much of what she suggested and produced a much stronger final draft.
Dorothy’s comment style is clear and professional. I would highly recommend Dorothy for all forms of editing; her skills in analyzing overall story, plot, and character arc combined with a strong sense of the importance of detail makes her a very effective editor.

Review of Developmental Edit

Dorothy served as a beta reader for my 120,000-word literary fiction manuscript. She provided valuable insight, noting plot inconsistencies and believability issues in my novel. Her comments were professional, clear, and kind. Thank you, Dorothy, for helping me take Eden’s Daughter to the next level. I appreciate your encouragement and suggestions for improvement as a writer.
