Agents of Change: Writing Young Capable Characters

This workshop will dive into the importance of creating themes of agency and advocacy in children’s books. We’ll take a brief tour of prominent children’s stories to examine how authors have created characters that have a light yet lasting presence. The second part of the workshop will consist of exercises to help writers develop their skills with the components of agency.


Social Media & Website Basics to Grow Your Audience

Join the Okotoks Authors Group at the Okotoks Public Library, on Thursday March 16, 7 PM for their regular monthly meeting. Dorothy will be facilitating the education portion of the meeting, about the basics of social media for writers who would rather be doing literally anything else. Free of charge. Open to the public.

Two Authors, Two Books. Dorothy Bentley with her YA tale Escape from the Wildfire, and Dee Hahn, with her middle-grade story, The Grave Thief, will interview each other and read from their novels. The Buffy, Wood Buffalo Excellence in the Arts Awards. Arts Council Wood Buffalo. Dorothy is one of the featured authors. She has been nominated for an award in the Literary Arts category. The event will take place in person and online, October 22, 2022. UPDATE: Dorothy was shortlisted for this award.
